The project is a long-term one, started last year and developed entirely with the help of the volunteers. Last year the volunteers have been strating to build the house. They made the fundation, the structure for building the walls and also the roof with the help of an architect specialized in the building of passive houses.

This year the 16 EVS volunteers coming from Armenia, Romania, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Latvia, Ukraine and Poland had the task of building the walls of the house, installing the electrical wires and the solar panel for green energy and also designing and starting work at the ecological garden near the house. All of those things were realized with the help of specialized trainners from whom the volunteers had the chance to learn so many things about the mix necessary for the building of the walls, about the installation of a solar panel and about the making of an ecological garden with local types of vegetables and fruits.

The event that the EVS Volunteers organized last Friday was an open air event for the community of the island in order to make their activity more visible for a large number of people. In the morning the volunteers explained to the children the importance of sustainable development and of building a house entirely made of natural materials that they can find in their region and also the importance of growing in a sustainable way your own fruits and vegetables and of consuming them fresh. The children also had the chance to mix by themselves the clay with the sand and the sawdust in order to build miniatural eco-houses. Mr Scare Crow was one of the main attractions of the day for the small ones.

For the local community the common work of volunteers coming from different cultures, traditions and backgrounds should clarify a little bit more the importance of tolerance and solidarity. The eco-house is the product of these two characteristics united together with a lot of hard work but also nice moments and new revealing experiences.

<a
